Classic Namtso Lake Bike Tour

As one of the holiest lake in Tibet, Namtso Lake is like a shining star fallen into the earth. The scenery around Namtso Lake is stunning and attractive with running yaks and sheep, grand snow-mountains, boundless grassland, and mirror-like lakes. No wonder a great number of travelers from home and abroad travel to Tibet to explore the beauty of Namtso Lake. Here, I’d like to introduce the best way to enjoy the scenery – planning a Tibet biking tour. Not only can you see the majestic views along the way, but also you can refresh yourself from inside to outside. There is a classic Namtso Lake bike tour which is worthy of being recommended to you.

Day One: Lhasa Arrival

No matter you take a train to Tibet or take a direct flight to Tibet, your tour guide will wait for you at the airport or train station. After meeting your tour guide, you will be driven back to the local hotel as soon as possible. The time is free for you. You can have a walk around your hotel or have a rest in your room. I suggest you should have a good rest in your hotel when you arrive in Lhasa because you need time to adapt to the high altitude.

After breakfast, your tour guide will take you to visit three must-see attractions in Lhasa. The first attraction is Potala Palace – the landmark of Lhasa city. In that past, it was the winter palace for Dalai Lama. At present, it has become a modern museum with numerous antiques. The second attraction is Jokhang Temple – the holiest temple in Tibet. It houses the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve. You can see lots of pilgrims outside the temple. The third attraction is Barkor Street – the busiest street in Tibet. You can buy some traditional items from Tibet and Nepal.

As one of the “great three” Gelug monasteries of Tibet, Drepung Monastery was used as the government center for Dalai Lama. In the afternoon, your tour guide will take you to visit Sera Monastery. Built in 1419, Sera Monastery is a hot tourist destination for travelers. The highlight of in this monastery is the hot Buddhism debate held at around 3 – 5 in the afternoon.
